Joining the General Surgery Associates practice in the coming weeks will be board-certified surgeon Yuriy Zhurov.
Dr. Zhurov will provide care to patients needing general surgeries and minimally invasive procedures in Oswego Hospital’s advanced surgery center. He said he was looking forward to working in the busy surgery practice.
He is a third-generation physician. Dr. Zhurov’s mother was an endocrinologist, while his grandmother was a general practitioner who during her medical career treated wounded World War II soldiers. “I chose to pursue a different medical field then my family members. I wanted to be an accomplished and innovative surgeon who can offer his patients the very best chance for a positive outcome.” Dr. Zhurov said.
He received his medical degree from Kharkiv National Medical University and a Ph.D. from the Institute of General and Emergency Surgery in Ukraine. He completed his residency at Nassau University Medical Center, located in East Meadow, New York. He also completed Fellowship at the Institute of General and Emergency Surgery in Ukraine. This Fellowship included training in Thoracic Surgery, as well as Hepatobiliary and Minimally Invasive Surgery. A second Fellowship was completed in Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery at New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York.
Dr. Zhurov has been practicing in Michigan where he also serves as a clinical assistant professor at Michigan State University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine.
He will move to the area in the upcoming weeks, with his wife and daughter, who is a high school freshman. When he isn’t practicing medicine, Dr. Zhurov enjoys traveling, fishing and kayaking.
