Area Health Providers Hosting a Healthy You Breast and Ovarian Cancer Awareness Event

Oswego Health, along with area healthcare providers, invite area community members for a night of health, wellness and fun with friends on Tuesday, October 17th, as a panel of experts discuss the symptoms, screenings and treatments available for breast and ovarian cancers.

This Healthy You event begins at 6 p.m. at GS Steamers Restaurant on East First Street in Oswego.  Coordinating the night are Oswego Health, State Senator Patty Ritchie, Peaceful Remedies, the Oswego County Health Department, Oswego County OB-GYN, Oswego County Opportunities Cancer Services and Myriad Genetic Testing.

Among the panelist are Allison A.N. Duggan, MD, Oswego Hospital Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer; Daniel Coty, DO, of Oswego County OB-GYN; David Wang, MD, CRA Medical Imaging; Alex Banashkevich, of Upstate Cancer Center Radiation Oncology at Oswego; and Sam Benjamin, MD, of Upstate Cancer Center Hematology Oncology at Oswego. Also speaking will be Becky Palmer, breast cancer survivor and radio host for station B104.7.

“While the Power of Pink breast cancer events we previously hosted were successful, the group felt it was important to include ovarian cancer this year, as the community mourns Mary Gosek, a founder of Peaceful Remedies, one of our partnering organizations,” said Dr. Duggan. “Another essential change was involving a range of local healthcare providers with expertise and services in these health areas and inviting related vendors to participate. We’ve also asked a well-known survivor to share her story. This is expected to be a fun, educational and impactful night.”

Among the vendors who will be a part of the evening are the Oswego YMCA Livestrong program, St. Agatha Foundation, the Caring and Sharing Support Group, OCO’s Cancer Services Program and Myriad Genetic Testing.

The event also makes available free mammograms to women who meet certain requirements, thanks to a grant secured by Senator Ritchie. To learn more about this free screening, please call Carin at 315-349-5513.

Community members who have questions about the event, should call 315-349-5500.
