Ask the Doctor on Good Colorectal Health and Good Colon Nutrition

Gastroenterologist Ajoy Roy, MD, along with Certified Dietician/Nutritionist Alicia Olsen, RD, CDN, will provide an Ask the Doctor program at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 6th at GS Steamers Restaurant in Oswego.

Dr. Roy will discuss colorectal cancer prevention, including the importance of undergoing a colonoscopy, which is the recommended screening for community members aged 50 and older. “A colonoscopy is the best method available for screening for colorectal cancer,” Dr. Roy said. The screening detects polyps that may turn into cancer. There are 140,000 new cases of colorectal cancer diagnosed each year. These cancers are the second most common forms of cancer and they are the most preventable in the United States.”

Dr. Roy has provided gastroenterology care in the community for more than 30 years. He graduated from the Patna Medical School in Patna India and continued his medical training in the United Kingdom, as well as fulfilled a gastroenterology fellowship at Yale University’s School of Medicine.

Meanwhile, Olsen will discuss what foods to eat and those to avoid as a means of preventing colon cancer. She will also talk about the importance of a good balanced diet in the fight against colorectal cancer.

Olsen is a graduate of Syracuse University’s certified dietician/nutritionist program.
