Dialectical Behavior Therapy Group (DBT)

Wednesday, April 24, 2024 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM

DBT is the first of the so call second wave Cognitive Therapy treatments to incorporate mindfulness philosophy into western mental health treatment. It is appropriate for anyone with enduring patterns of relational issues and/or emotional dysregulation resulting in behavioral issues.

There are four skill areas taught:

  • Mindfulness: Meditation skills that underlie, and that are woven into, all other skill areas.
  • Distress Tolerance: How to tolerate negative moods and experiences without feeling the need to react.
  • Emotional Regulation: My mood goes from zero to 60 in a split second, how do I get it back to zero or maybe to 45?
  • Interpersonal Effectiveness: Teaches healthy relationship and communication skills. How does a person get needs met without burning the other person out. How does a person have a friendship where they don’t burn themselves out.

Taught by George Moore, LCSW, and Maureen Bradley, LMSW. Pre-evaluation is required.  For more information, please call 315-326-4100.
