Lakeside Heart Re-Accredited

Oswego Health’s Lakeside Heart Center has been re-accredited by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR), signifying the facility offers the highest standards for cardiac rehabilitation.

The Lakeside Heart Center, located at 177 W. Fourth St., in Oswego, provides cardiac rehabilitation to community members who have recently experienced a cardiac event.

To earn this prestigious certification, Lakeside Heart Center participated in a process that required extensive review of program documentation, its performance improvement processes and policies and procedures. “We have worked diligently to maintain this certification which indicates that our cardiac patients receive the highest standard of care,” said Brenda LaMay, RN, FNP, MSN, Oswego Health’s Community Health Services Director.

The AACVPR program certification is the only peer-review accreditation process designed to review individual programs for adherence to standards and guidelines developed and published by AACVPR and other professional societies. Each program is reviewed by the AACVPR program certification committee and certification is awarded by the AACVPR Board of Directors. The certification is valid for 3 years.

As part of the certification process, the Oswego Health staff at the Lakeside Heart Center developed an evidenced based outcome education program that addresses heart risk factor modification, nutrition, depression and cardiac interventions, among other related topics.

At Lakeside, specially-trained registered nurses that include Kathleen Whitney, RN, offer phase II cardiac rehabilitation services and adult fitness classes. Phase II participants typically take part in 36 sessions and are monitored by state-of-the-art telemetry equipment, which can immediately alert staff of any arrhythmias or other issues. This equipment also can trend patient data for physicians to review with their patients.
