Oswego Health Hosts MASH Camp

Area students explored healthcare careers during Oswego Health’s recent MASH Camp (Medical Academy of Science and Health) held for two days at Oswego Hospital.

The students, who are entering the eighth and ninth grades, took part in interactive rotations through numerous hospital departments that included the lab, pharmacy and medical imaging. They learned how to suture by members of the surgery center’s staff and how to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), with kits they took home, enabling them to teach their family members.

“We had a great group of students who had a lot of fun as they learned about the various careers they can pursue in healthcare,” said Oswego Health Chief Nursing Officer Valerie Favata. “The camp also gives our staff an opportunity to share their skills with hopefully another generation of healthcare workers and they truly look forward to hosting the camp each year.

The camp is coordinated by the Central New York Area Health Education Center. Helping to support the MASH Camp is the Oswego Hospital Auxiliary and Menter Ambulance Service.
