OH Welcomes Colorectal Specialist Theresa Ruddy, MD

Oswego Health welcomes Theresa Ruddy, MD, M.P.H. to its medical staff and the General Surgery Associates practice, located at 90 W. Utica St., in Oswego.

Dr. Ruddy is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgeons.

            Dr. Ruddy graduated from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. After medical school, she earned her Master in Public Health in health policy and administration from the University of Illinois in Chicago.

She has completed two surgical residencies, one at Rush University Medical Center/Stroger Cook County Hospital in Chicago, where she served as chief resident. Her second surgical residency was completed at the State University of New York Medical/Dental Consortium in Buffalo. Dr. Ruddy did her colorectal surgery Fellowship at Brown University/Rhode Island Hospital.

During her medical training, Dr. Ruddy earned several awards and recognitions. In addition to serving as chief resident of the year, she was honored for teaching medical school residents, and was named a finalist for the Resident Award for Exemplary Teaching, presented by the American College of Surgeons, Division of Education.

Her medical teaching experience also includes serving as a clinical assistant professor in the department of surgery at SUNY Upstate Medical University and as a teaching fellow in surgery, at the Alpert Medical School of Brown University.

 Most recently, Dr. Ruddy has provided care at Colon Rectal Associates of CNY in Liverpool.

As a colorectal surgeon in Oswego, Dr. Ruddy will provide colonoscopies and colorectal resections in Oswego Hospital state-of-art surgery center. She will also treat those with cancer, diverticulitis, inflamed bowels, Crones disease, colitis and other related conditions.

            Dr. Ruddy said she is looking forward to providing her expertise in Oswego. “This opportunity allows me to provide the patient services I most enjoy and I believe I have something to contribute,” she said. “I also find the size of the hospital and community appealing and plan to get to know both my patients and the community.” 

            In her spare time, Dr. Ruddy enjoys spending time with her husband, and their four children.
