Oswego Health introduces a new service to assist area residents suffering from one of life’s most embarrassing issues, urinary incontinence.
Urinary incontinence affects one in four women and can also be an annoying issue for men. Providing relief from incontinence are Oswego Health Urologists Elizabeth Bozeman, MD, and her husband, Gary Bozeman, MD. “If your daily activities are impacted by incontinence, it is time to talk about the issue with a physician,” said Dr. Elizabeth W. Bozeman. “We have improved the quality of life for many women and men with incontinence issues.”
Among the triggers, the Bozemans say, are vigorous activity such as exercise sneezing laughing, coughing or lifting. Typically, individuals at risk are female, older, of Caucasian or Hispanic ethnicity, overweight or obese, smokers or those with a chronic cough.
The Bozemans offer several surgical options for their patients. Finding relief from a surgical sling procedure was Lori, of Auburn. “I was given a whole new life again,” said Lori, who requested her last name not be used. “It had reached the point where I didn’t want to go anywhere, worried that I’d sneeze or cough.”
Lori Anne said Dr. Elizabeth W. Bozeman and the entire surgical team were “fantastic.” She adds, “They were all wonderful and treated me well. My recovery was great too. I went home that day.”

Elizabeth W. Bozeman, MD
Elizabeth Bozeman has extensive experience in female urology, recurrent urinary infections, stone disease, interstitial cystitis, and many other conditions of general urology.
Dr. Bozeman completed her undergraduate degree at Emory University in Atlanta. She went on to the Medical University of South Carolina, where she attended medical school, as well as fulfilled her internship and residency. During her residency, she was chief urology resident. She has the distinction of being the first female to complete the urology medical school program and was the first female to practice urology in South Carolina.
Along with her urology practice, Dr. Bozeman was active in both the South Carolina Urological Association and the Society of Women in Urology, serving in several key leadership positions.
Gary D. Bozeman, MD
Gary Bozeman, MD, provides care in all areas of urology, specializing in prostate enlargement, voiding dysfunction, stone disease, prostate cancer, bladder cancer, kidney cancer, urinary incontinence and erectile dysfunction.
Dr. Bozeman had initially practiced as a general surgeon for two years before deciding to concentrate on providing urology care. He earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, where he also attended medical school. His internship and residency in general surgery were completed at the University of Tennessee, while his urology residency was fulfilled at the Medical University of South Carolina, where he was chief resident.
Dr. Bozeman has been an active member of the American Urological Association, the Southeastern Section of the AUA, and the Society of Urodynamics and Female Urology. He is a past president of the South Carolina Urological Association.
