Oswego Health to lead Harborfest Childrens parade and offer activities at Franklin Square

Oswego Health continues its long tradition of leading off Harborfest’s Children Parade and will offer free fun games and activities for children once the parade arrives at its destination, Franklin Square.

The parade begins at Breitbeck Park at 1:30 p.m. and proceeds along West Fifth Street to Franklin Square/West Park. Oswego Health has long been a sponsor of this popular Harborfest children’s event. Along the route, members of the health system’s Sun Patrol will hand out small packets of sunscreen. This initiative was undertaken nearly 30 years ago after staff from Oswego Hospital’s emergency room noted that many young children were seeking treatment for severe sunburn during Harborfest.

Once the parade arrives at Franklin Square, Oswego Health will have free games including a putting green, football toss and beach-themed obstacle course for children of all ages, as part of the health system’s efforts to promote healthy kids.

For residents who enjoy listening to polka music or the sounds of the big band, Springside at Seneca Hill, an affiliate of Oswego Health, is sponsoring both My Sweet Patootie   and the Rhythm Airs Dance Band in Franklin Park. The music starts around 11:45 a.m. on July 29th.

Among the many expected to attend this concert are the residents of Springside.

In addition, the Oswego Health system will provide the necessary medical supplies used throughout the weekend by the Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT). Local EMTs will have first aid comfort stations located at the various parks and venues being used during the weekend celebration.
